García Mayor Launches World's Largest Animal Sterilization Campaign

The municipality of García, Mexico, has launched the "Sterilize with Love" campaign, aiming to perform 10,000 sterilizations on stray animals. The city's mayor stated this is the largest campaign of its kind in the world, with veterinarians from Austria, the US, and Canada participating.

García Mayor Launches World's Largest Animal Sterilization Campaign

The mayor of García, Manuel Guerra Cavazos, kicked off the "Sterilize with Love" campaign, which aims to provide a better quality of life for stray animals—mainly dogs and cats. To tackle this social and health issue, the municipality aims to achieve around 10,000 sterilizations. "This is the largest sterilization campaign ever seen in the world," commented Guerra Cavazos. The 10,000 sterilizations expected in this drive would add to the 4,000 already performed by the municipality in its ongoing commitment to animal welfare. The campaign will be available to the public from February 14 to 24 at the Teatro de la Gente. The municipal president announced that he wants to break the record for sterilizations in a single campaign, which was set in Costa Rica with 4,000 procedures for animals. "We have deployed more than 120 taxis, which are completely free for our people, and the GarciBus, which is also free. I must tell you that all municipal departments and all our teams will be out on the streets," declared Guerra Cavazos. The "Sterilize with Love" campaign is just one of the municipal programs for the benefit of animals, as previously the creation of public houses for stray dogs and cats was intensified, along with the sterilization of up to 4,000 animals and the launch of a municipal digital platform that promotes pet adoption. "We are looking to sterilize all those little animals that have been on the street for a long time, and now that they will be sterile, we will start to combat that indicator," added the mayor. It was detailed that in this brigade, there is the support of veterinarians from Austria, the United States, and Canada, which elevates the degree of professionalism and seriousness of the surgical interventions. Additionally, the municipality has made available up to 120 taxis and the free GarciBus routes so that there are no complications for citizens looking to improve the quality of life of their pets. "A record was set in Costa Rica, where they sterilized 4,000 puppies, so our goal now is to reach 10,000. According to recent studies, the administration estimates 15,000 stray dogs and cats in García.
