Akron Stadium, known as the home of Chivas, will be the venue for the upcoming 2026 World Cup and will change its name due to FIFA regulations that prohibit commercial brand names. During the World Cup matches, it will be called Guadalajara Stadium in honor of the local team and the city where it is located.
Modernization work on Akron Stadium will begin in the summer of 2025, between the 2025 Clausura and Apertura tournaments of Liga MX. These improvements include the installation of LED lights, free WiFi for fans, security systems, and Mexico's first FIFA Quality Pro certified hybrid pitch.
Regarding the 2026 World Cup, Guadalajara Stadium will host four matches, including the second match of the Mexican National Team. The municipal government of Zapopan will make adjustments to the ring road, including the establishment of a Macrobus station and a walkway that will allow passengers to walk to the stadium.
