The municipal president of Guadalajara, Verónica Delgadillo, visited the traditional San Juan de Dios market along with Michelle Fridman, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Jalisco. The purpose of the visit was to promote this complex, considered the largest covered market in Latin America, as the tourist hub of the Jalisco capital. This is especially significant as Guadalajara will be a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"We want it to be a nodal point for tourism for the city and for Jalisco," Verónica Delgadillo shared. "Markets have great potential; they are a major attraction for tourists, and in this particular case, it is a space that serves various social and economic layers due to its great tradition," she added.

Michelle Fridman highlighted that the market, with more than 4,000 stalls, is part of an important corridor that connects iconic places in the city such as the Cabañas Museum and the Degollado Theater. Now, in light of the global sporting event, the aim is to enhance its tourist value with Jalisco gastronomy.

"We want this tourist corridor to attract tourists to enjoy Jalisco flavors, craftsmanship, and products," Fridman emphasized. "We want this great tourist heart to be seen throughout the world."

The vendors of San Juan de Dios expressed their willingness to collaborate with municipal and state authorities to reactivate the historic market and make it a significant tourist attraction. The complex, designed by architect Alejandro Zohn and dedicated to commerce since 1958, is preparing to be part of the promotion of Guadalajara leading up to the 2026 World Cup.

As part of the 2025 public works program of the Government of Guadalajara, which focuses on sports and culture, efforts are being made to prepare the city for the important football event next year, which will be held in Mexico alongside the United States and Canada.
