New Public Bike Stations Improve Accessibility in Guadalajara

In Guadalajara, with the aim of providing a more inclusive and safe public bicycle service, especially for women, eight new stations of the MiBici Public System have been installed in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara (AMG). These stations were developed in collaboration by the Metropolitan Agency for Mobility Infrastructure (AMIM), the Institute of Planning and Management for Development of the Metropolitan Area (Imeplan), BKT Public Bike, and the collective Transeúntas.

Adrián López, Administrator of AMIM, mentioned that the selection of locations was based on a study of the dynamics of those areas, as well as on information gathering in the surroundings to ensure user safety of this public bicycle system. The new stations are located in neighborhoods such as Americana, Arcos Vallarta, Patria, Tepeyac, Obrera, Alcalde Barranquitas, Mezquitán Country, and Moderna.

The locations of the new MiBici stations were chosen according to 35 criteria generated for guidance through the evaluation and rating of citizens on a scale from 1 to 5. Criteria such as proximity to public lighting, road safety, connectivity, and the quality of infrastructure in the surroundings were considered. Additionally, scores were assigned in key areas like public lighting, proximity to C5 cameras, and the quality of sidewalks and other urban elements.

In summary, these new stations aim to promote safer and more inclusive mobility in Guadalajara, providing citizens, especially women, with more transportation options and encouraging the use of bicycles as a sustainable means of transportation in the city.
