The Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, led the press conference for the presentation of the 2025 World Diving Cup. This is the first time that the world competition is held in Guadalajara and the first occasion in Mexico since 1997. Present at the presentation were also Rommel Pacheco, Director of the National Sports Commission (Conade), the President of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM), María José Alcalá, and Olympic divers Gabriela Agúndez and Osmar Olvera.
The Guadalajara 2025 World Diving Cup will take place from April 3 to 6, being an international event that returns to the state after 13 years. This significant achievement has been made possible thanks to the joint effort between the Mexican Olympic Committee and the Government of Jalisco, which will invest 14.5 million pesos in the remodeling of the Metropolitan Aquatic Center in Zapopan, the venue for the World Cup. For its part, Rommel Pacheco revealed that Conade will also make an investment for its remodeling, although he did not dare to specify an approximate figure.
During the press conference, Pablo Lemus emphasized that "The best way to prevent crime is to bring children closer to sports," to which Rommel Pacheco added: "Sports is not an expense, it is an investment." The President of Conade mentioned that this Diving World Cup marks a new beginning for aquatic sports in Mexico.
As for the representatives of Mexico in the Diving World Cup, there will be 12 athletes, including Olympic medalists Juan Celaya and Osmar Olvera, as well as Gabriela Agúndez, who will debut in the team event with Alejandra Estudillo. Other divers that make up the Mexican delegation are Gabriel Vázquez, Kevin Berlín, Randall Willars, Kenny Zamudio, Suri Cueva, Lía Cueva, Mía Cueva, and Juan Celaya.
The 2025 Diving World Cup will start on April 3 and will run for three days, concluding on the 6th, at the Metropolitan Aquatic Center, the venue for the 2011 Guadalajara Pan American Games. The competition will feature the participation of 120 divers from 23 countries, competing in the first major event leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
