Sofía Reyes: Returning to Her Roots and Closing a Creative Cycle

Sofía Reyes reflects on her journey, feeling as if she is returning to her roots. This marks a full circle moment, as she met during her early days with the girl band TAO, coinciding with the beginning of her solo career when she dared to try something new in another city. This is why Guadalajara holds a very special place in her heart, representing the start of her transformation into a completely different person. In TAO, her real name is Úrsula, but she adopted a different stage name. This evolution is also reflected on stage. With her new album, Sofía concludes a chapter filled with emotion, introspection, and honesty. «There is a lot of pressure… so for me, it has been a significant journey to separate those two and focus on my message,» she shares. She also acknowledges the progress of women in Latin music, though the path is not yet complete. Sofía emphasizes that vulnerability is not weakness but the highest point of connection with her art and audience. In an interview, she spoke about her new album, which blends genres from ballads with regional touches to bossa nova, giving her a sense of freedom and creativity. Her recent intimate concert revealed an artist willing to shed all artifice to connect deeply with her audience. «I decided to open my heart and be as authentic as possible,» she says. «The emotions were so overwhelming I couldn't stop crying.» This emotional experience marks the beginning of a new era for her live shows. Sofía also admitted she often cries over her songs before they are released but learns to let them go once they are out. This journey has not been easy, especially in an industry that demands immediate results. «It has been an essential journey for me, a lot of therapy and coaching because we live in a fast-food world where everything is very fast,» she notes. Through four additional tracks, Sofía delves deeper into her personal and artistic transformation, showing a more honest and grounded side. If her previous album was a cry for liberation, this new one is the introspective whisper that closes the cycle.
