After the dismissal of Juan Carlos Martínez Castrejo, Fran Pérez Lázaro, and Sergio Pérez Alonso from the Technical-Sporting Committee of Chivas before the weekend match against Pumas, the departure of Óscar García was announced, thus completing the renewal of the team's coaching staff. As a result, Gerardo Espinoza was appointed as interim coach until the end of the tournament.
In a statement shared by the team on social media, it was reported that the Sports Management of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, led by Javier Mier, chose Gerardo Espinoza to lead Chivas during the Clausura 2025 and the Concacaf Champions Cup. The decision was based on Espinoza's successful track record at the helm of Tapatio, a team he led to victory in its category and that facilitated the promotion of several young players to the first team.
The plans to include Gerardo Espinoza in Chivas' coaching staff were evident from his performance with Tapatio. The management trusted his ability to continue developing emerging talent and maintaining the team's performance in the remaining competitions. The transition was delayed due to the failed resignation of Óscar García, who initially attempted to leave his position as a show of solidarity but later demanded compensation if he left, causing a stalemate in the restructuring process.
The fluidity of the change in Chivas' coaching staff is now reinforced by the presence of Gerardo Espinoza as interim Technical Director, marking a new phase in the club in search of positive results for the remainder of the season.
