The US Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, recognized the Government of Mexico and its security forces for the operation that resulted in the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). In an institutional statement released by the embassy, Johnson stated: 'I recognize the Government of Mexico and its security forces for their professionalism and determination in the operation directed against Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a narco-terrorist organization responsible for trafficking fentanyl and generating violence in our communities.' The diplomat expressed his 'respect and solidarity with Mexican officials and security elements who face these criminal groups every day, often at high personal risk.' The ambassador emphasized that the action against the CJNG leader reflects a shared stance against criminal organizations. 'This operation highlights a clear reality: criminal organizations that poison our people and threaten our nations will be held accountable,' he affirmed. 'Under the leadership of President Trump and President Sheinbaum, bilateral cooperation has reached unprecedented levels. The United States stands firm with Mexico in this shared responsibility and effort,' he stated. According to official information, the federal action took place on Sunday in a mountainous area of Tapalpa, about 130 kilometers south of Guadalajara, where military personnel repelled an armed attack. 'El Mencho', who was wounded in the clash, died during his air transfer to Mexico City. During the operation, high-powered weapons and armored vehicles, including rocket launchers, were secured. The Secretariat of National Defense reported that the intervention had 'complementary information' from the United States, 'within the framework of bilateral coordination and cooperation.' The White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, confirmed that the United States provided intelligence information to Mexico for the operation and praised the performance of the Mexican Army in it. According to international media and agencies, the Joint Interagency Task Force Against Cartels (JIATF-CC) provided the intelligence information to the Mexican government. The body of Oseguera Cervantes, 56 years old, was taken from the hangar of the Attorney General's Office at the capital airport to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), where the legal autopsy and genetic identification tests will be performed.
