Chivas coach, Óscar García, received a three-match suspension due to violent conduct against Colombian player James Rodríguez during Matchday 4 of the Clausura 2025 Tournament, according to the Disciplinary Commission of the Mexican Football Federation. García was not the only one under scrutiny this tournament, as Martín Anselmi, former coach of Cruz Azul, has also faced criticism for his unexpected departure from the team.
In the match between Chivas and León on Matchday 4, García was sent off in the 27th minute after attempting to kick a group of opposing players, including James Rodríguez and referee Óscar Macías. In addition to the three-match suspension, the Spanish coach was also fined, the amount of which has not been disclosed.
The Disciplinary Commission warned Club Guadalajara about the future conduct of its head coach. In a statement, they mentioned that in case of recurrence of such actions, harsher sanctions could be applied. Óscar García, 51 years old, who arrived in December to replace Fernando Gago, apologized to both Chivas fans and their rivals.
García will miss upcoming matches against Querétaro, Tijuana, and Toluca, returning to coach on February 22 against Pachuca on Matchday 8. Chivas, one of the most popular teams in Mexico, is seeking to win its first title since the Clausura 2017 and currently occupies the eleventh position after the first four matches of the championship.
Although the images do not show evidence that the coach directly went to assault James Rodríguez, referee Macías reported it this way in his official report. García acknowledged that emotions and passion in football can lead him to the limit, but stated that his reaction was unjustified.
