Chivas de Guadalajara Face Coaching Changes

Chivas de Guadalajara, after a dramatic victory, are left without a coach. Rumors point to Gerardo Espinoza taking over the position, aiming for a spot in the Liguilla.

Chivas de Guadalajara Face Coaching Changes

The Las Chivas de Guadalajara club is in a complicated situation after securing a painful victory against Pumas last weekend and losing their coach. Óscar García Junyent will be dismissed from the Rebaño Sagrado, putting an end to Fernando Hierro's Spanish project. Amid this uncertainty, speculations arise about who will take charge of the team. Everything points to a coach with experience in the Mexican National Team, given the current challenge of seeking a place in the Liguilla and facing América in the round of 16 of the Concachampions.

According to David Medrano from Azteca Deportes, Gerardo Espinoza is the chosen one by the management and Amaury Vergara, the club owner, to take over the team. Espinoza, born in Guamúchil, Sinaloa, has already managed the affiliate team, Tapatío, where he won a title in the Liga de Expansión, working with players who are now part of the first team like Mateo Chávez, Raúl Rangel, and Hugo Camberos. Espinoza's knowledge of Guadalajara's youth academy makes him an interesting bet for the institution that seeks to promote its young talents.

Gerardo Espinoza, 43 years old, has experience with the Mexican National Team in Under-20 and Under-23 categories. In addition, he had a stint with Aucas of the Ecuadorian Primera División in 2024, where he managed 15 matches with a record of eight wins, five draws, and two losses. His profile seems to fit the vision of the Chivas management, which focuses on player development and the consolidation of the team in the current season.
