The process of Óscar García with Chivas has come to an end, although the club has not officially announced his departure. The reason for the delay in announcing a new head coach is due to an economic issue. Last Saturday, news broke that García Junyet would not continue leading the team before the match against Pumas in matchday 10 of the Clausura 2025. As a result, José Meléndez directed in place of the Spanish assistants.
Óscar García is still the coach of Chivas, but he has made it clear that if the club wants him to leave, they must pay him the full contract he signed in December, which is for a duration of two years. He is requesting payment for the remaining 22 months, which would amount to between four and five million dollars, as it is reported that he earns 2.5 million annually. On the other hand, the club is negotiating by offering him 50% of the contract, adjusted for the two months he has already received.
As long as this matter remains unresolved and García's departure is formalized, Chivas will not be able to present a new coach, having to resort to an interim for upcoming commitments. José Meléndez will lead the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup against América, as well as the match on matchday 11 of the Clausura 2025, until the economic situation is resolved. It is worth noting that the second leg of the Concachampions is scheduled for March 12 at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
