The match corresponding to Matchday 11 of Liga MX ended in a 0-0 draw, but a serious incident outside the field led to an exchange of aggressions between fans and players, resulting in sanctions by the Disciplinary Commission.
In a statement issued on March 14, it was announced that Akron Stadium, home of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, would receive a one-match ban due to the recurring misconduct of its supporters. During the Matchday 11 encounter against Club América, a bottle thrown onto the field caused an injury to a player, leading to this sanction which will take effect on Matchday 13.
Despite Guadalajara's attempts to appeal the sanction imposed on their coach, the investigation concluded that the measures taken by the referee were appropriate, thus rejecting the request. It was also confirmed that America player Cristian Borja would receive a monetary sanction for provocative and obscene gestures during the match.
In the statement from the Disciplinary Commission, it was mentioned: "Regarding the expulsion of their head coach, Gerardo Espinoza, after receiving the request submitted by Club Guadalajara, once the investigation was carried out, and the relevant videos analyzed, it is determined that the request is inadmissible. It is also informed that player Cristian Borja of Club América will receive a monetary sanction for provocative and obscene gestures."
The Clásico Nacional between Chivas and América is one of the most notable matchups of the regular season in Liga MX, being one of the most intense rivalries in Mexican football.
