Jimmy Morales, general director of Escudería Telmex Telcel, revealed unprecedented details about Sergio 'Checo' Pérez's departure from Red Bull in Formula 1. According to Morales, Pérez's decision to leave the Austrian team was due to feeling uncomfortable with the internal pressure and lack of a conducive environment for his development.
"Despite the difficult situation, Jimmy Morales does not rule out a possible return of Checo Pérez to Formula 1 in the future. I do believe that if something interesting comes up, because Checo doesn’t even need to return to racing, he has already done what he needed to do in his career," Morales assured.
Morales explained that the delayed communication from Red Bull prevented Checo from negotiating his inclusion with other teams, leaving him without options for the 2025 season. "We are always trying to negotiate, but the truth is that they caught us very late, telling us when there was no space in other teams anymore," Morales added.
The director also mentioned that Pérez's decision to leave Red Bull was due to internal interests and the lack of a favorable environment. Morales praised Checo's competitiveness and highlighted that his driver no longer felt comfortable at Red Bull due to those circumstances.
Morales's statements have generated debate among Checo Pérez's fans and hinted at the possibility of the Mexican driver returning to Formula 1. Morales commented that Pérez would only return if he feels the need and desire to compete, and not out of obligation.
In this context, Morales emphasized that it is important for Checo to be in a team that allows him to fight for competitive positions on the grid, and if that opportunity is not offered, he prefers to cut the relationship. "If you are going to give me a car with which I will be fighting for the last place, what’s the point? You would say: 'Is it really worth it to be with you?'"
