The regular phase of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of Liga MX has concluded after 17 matchdays. On the afternoon of this Monday, November 11, Liga MX announced the dates and times for the play-in matches.
Firstly, Chivas will play against the rojinegros of Atlas at the Akron Stadium next Thursday, November 21, at 19:00 hours. On the same day, the Águilas of América will face the Xolos of Tijuana at Estadio Caliente at 21:00 hours, central time of Mexico.
The winner of this elimination will secure a direct spot in the quarter-finals, taking the seventh position and facing Toluca. The loser will have another opportunity, as they will play the winner of Chivas vs. Atlas for the eighth place, which will face the leader Cruz Azul in the next phase.
Regarding the team's status before the play-in matches, Tijuana managed to secure its position as a home team in the repechaje with a dramatic victory over Puebla. In contrast, América comes from suffering a heavy defeat against Toluca and will have significant absences due to the FIFA date, which could affect their performance against Xolos.
Chivas missed the opportunity to qualify directly for the Liguilla after losing at home to Atlético de San Luis, while Atlas finished in tenth place after a goalless draw against Necaxa.
