A stray dog got into trouble while trying to get food in Guadalupe. The animal got its head stuck in a railing while attempting to reach a plate of food in a house's yard. Civil Protection of Guadalupe intervened to rescue the dog, which was unharmed after the incident.
The homeowner alerted the authorities after hearing barking in the early morning. Upon receiving the report, Civil Protection arrived at the scene and was able to free the dog trapped in the railing.
This incident highlights the issue of stray animals in Nuevo León, where it is estimated that there are around 2 million pets living on the streets, the majority of which are cats. Activists warn that this figure could represent only 20% of the real problem, as many animals end up on the streets after being abandoned by their owners.
In response to this situation, as of 2023, the purchase and sale of dogs and cats is prohibited in the state, with adoptions needing to be carried out exclusively through shelters. The goal of this measure is to reduce the number of abandoned animals that suffer accidents or die from hunger on the streets.
Additionally, the state's Secretary of the Environment has intensified monitoring against animal abuse, seeking to ensure the welfare of animals in the region.
