The Attorney General's Office of Justice of the State of Sonora reported that 25 arrest warrants have been issued for the fire at a Waldo's store on November 1, 2025, in Hermosillo. To date, seven warrants have been executed by the authorities, for which investigative techniques (judicial searches) have been authorized to carry them out. The agency indicated that the hearing for the formulation of the charge against the legal entity took place this Wednesday at 17:00 in Hermosillo before a Penal Judge. Waldo's Store Tragedy in Sonora On November 1, a fire at a Waldo's store left 24 people dead and 14 injured. According to the official report, the fire occurred around 15:00 when the store was full of customers due to payday and Day of the Dead shopping. One of the lines of investigation cited by the prosecutor in charge of the investigation, Gustavo Rómulo Salas, is the failure of an electrical power transformer inside the store, which he said was disconnected from the public infrastructure of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). In a press release, the retail chain corporation, with 68 stores in Sonora and more than 800 in Mexico, said that the company has paid for the funeral services of the victims, medical expenses of the survivors, and has begun repairing the damage to the affected families. It also stated that it has fully collaborated with the investigations in coordination with local authorities. Following the tragedy, the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, and the Mayor of Hermosillo, Antonio Aztiazarán, announced the dismissal of the heads of State and Municipal Civil Protection to prevent them from hindering the investigations. Additionally, the Attorney General of Justice said he will open criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings against individuals and officials from the state, municipality, and federation.
