Alfonso Durazo, governor of Sonora, made changes in his cabinet by appointing a new Secretary of Public Security and a coordinator of the State System of Social Communication. Braulio Martínez, who until now served as the personal secretary of the governor, was appointed as the head of the Secretary of Public Security, replacing Víctor Hugo Enríquez García, who submitted his resignation. Durazo announced that Martínez's proposal was sent to the State Congress for its respective approval, according to the law.
Amid the resignation of Víctor Hugo Enríquez García and the appointment of Braulio Martínez, Alfonso Durazo also incorporated Paloma Terán, a deputy, as the coordinator of the State System of Social Communication in his administration. These changes occur in a context marked by the escape of Saúl Francisco Hernández, known as 'El Ponchis', leader of Los Cazadores, a group linked to Los Chapitos in Sonora, who escaped from Cereso 1 in Hermosillo between May 4 and 5. Hernández was considered a priority target by the Security agencies of the Government of Mexico and was being investigated for serious crimes such as qualified homicide and organized crime association.
Braulio Martínez is an engineer in Naval Sciences with a master's degree in Administration and Public Policies, as well as a specialty in Naval Command from the Naval Higher Studies Center. He has held various administrative and operational positions in Semar, as well as key positions in security matters in Sonora. Notable is his experience as head of Assistance of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, as well as his work as State Coordinator of Assistance, Logistics and Security in the entity. From October 2024 to May 2025, Martínez served as the personal secretary to Governor Alfonso Durazo.
