The Metropolitan Park of León recorded one of its busiest weeks with 85,990 visitors during the Easter period, a figure that marks a recent record and a 58% increase compared to the previous year. This surge coincided with the implementation of the 'Pásale Gratis' program, which allowed free access and represented a cumulative saving of over one million pesos for those who visited the public space. In 2024, the park reported 54,645 visitors in the same period, demonstrating a significant rebound in attendance during this holiday season.
Activities Drive Family Attendance
Throughout the week, various events drew large family crowds. The Mega Inflatables area gathered 4,000 children, while nighttime events like Cinema Picnic attracted 2,500 people. This was complemented by a lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) show with 1,400 attendees, a family rally with over 300 participating families, and a nighttime bike ride that brought together more than 200 cyclists. On the cultural front, nearly 700 people attended jazz performances and storytelling sessions, 200 participated in bubble shows, and 40 more joined bird-watching activities.
A Public Space in High Demand
The recorded flow establishes the Metropolitan Park of León as one of the most concentrated visitor points in the city during Holy Week, in a context where the free recreational offer influenced internal mobility and the use of public space. Inaugurated in 1993, the 'Eliseo Martínez Pérez' Metropolitan Park of León has become one of the city's main green lungs, covering over 300 hectares that surround the El Palote dam. Since its creation, it has been a key space for recreation, sports, and family coexistence, as well as the venue for massive events like the International Balloon Festival, positioning it as one of the most relevant tourist and social spots in the Bajío region.
