In the third elimination round of the "Guanajuato ¡Sí Sabe!" contest, traditional cooks from ten municipalities in southwestern Guanajuato gathered to preserve and promote the state's culinary heritage. This stage is part of a circuit of four preliminaries that has already seen participation from representatives of 27 municipalities, and it will continue to explore more regions until culminating in a grand final in the city of León.
In this third stage, which took place in Pénjamo, cooks from Purísima del Rincón, Manuel Doblado, Romita, San Francisco del Rincón, Irapuato, Valle de Santiago, Cuerámaro, Huanímaro, Abasolo, and Pénjamo participated. Soon, the fourth and final preliminary will be held on May 18 in Mineral de Pozos, in the municipality of San Luis de la Paz, before the grand final taking place on May 31 and June 1 in the León MX District.
According to chef Benjamín Guerrero and other specialists in gastronomic culture, this contest goes beyond a simple competition, as it serves as a platform to rescue family recipes, highlight the talent of traditional cooks, and promote culinary tourism as a source of local income. Such initiatives contribute to keeping culinary traditions alive in a context of increasing industrialization of food.
The dishes presented at the Corralejo Tourist Stop during this weekend included delights such as xoconostle mole, oven-baked gorditas, and milk sweets, showcasing the richness and diversity of traditional Guanajuato cuisine. In addition to state-level recognition, the finalists will have the chance to represent Guanajuato at national culinary events such as the 2026 Tourism Fair.
