During 2023, the Municipal Health Directorate reported a clean slate. The Festival of the Death of León, held in the last week of October, will conclude with the traditional Walk of the Awakening of the Souls on Friday, November 1. During this activity, numerous catrinas and catrines will roam the streets of the city center. All activities of the festival are free and will take place in person.

During the Day of the Dead festivities, which extend from October 31 to November 2, it is expected that around 160,000 visitors will attend the nine municipal public cemeteries of León. It has been established that the entry of alcoholic beverages will not be allowed and the service hours at these locations will not be extended. Among the urban cemeteries, San Nicolás has a capacity for 6,500 people, while the Municipal North Cemetery can accommodate 8,500 people. Additionally, there will be public security presence in both urban and rural cemeteries to ensure order.

Authorities also warn that committing administrative offenses inside the cemeteries, such as consuming alcoholic beverages, damaging facilities, or introducing food, can result in fines ranging from 1,000 pesos to 20,000 pesos. The route of the Walk of the Awakening of the Souls will start at the San Nicolás Cemetery and conclude at the Main Square of the city.
