A fire in a cardboard warehouse in the San Miguel neighborhood of the city of León that occurred on the afternoon of this Wednesday has resulted in one dead and four seriously injured, including three minors who reportedly worked at the site.
The blaze started around one thirty in the afternoon on Juárez Avenue and Río Conchos Street, between Timoteo Lozano and Juan José Torres Landa, generating a dense curtain of black smoke visible from various points in the city. This area is known for housing numerous factories and warehouses, leading to a concentrated effort to contain the spread of the flames.
The León Firefighters and Civil Protection were the first to arrive to control the fire. Traffic agents diverted traffic in the surrounding areas due to visibility impairment from the smoke, and as a preventive measure, nearby buildings, such as the Edunova Institute, were evacuated.
"Upon rescuing the injured, it was found that they were workers from the site, although the causes of the fire are still unknown," said a spokesperson for the Firefighters. Despite nearly two hours of work, efforts to completely extinguish the fire in the warehouse are still ongoing.
