Controversy Over Purchase of Hot Air Balloon in León

The City Council of León has generated controversy over its potential acquisition of a hot air balloon. The Morena party in the municipal council has questioned the relevance of this purchase, pointing out that the high cost is not justified in light of other priority needs of the city, such as access to water and health.

Councilor Vanessa Montes de Oca from Morena has directed direct questions to Mayor Alejandra Gutiérrez regarding the justification for this expense and the availability of specialized providers in the state. The mayor has delegated the response to the authorities of the Metropolitan Park, who will provide all the necessary information to justify the investment.

The hot air balloon, which would bear the name of the Ecological Metropolitan Park 'Eliseo Martínez Pérez', would cost more than one million pesos. It would be operated under strict safety protocols and used to promote events such as the International Balloon Festival (FIG) and My Neighborhood Speaks. The funds for the acquisition are included in a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato.

Councilor Hildeberto Moreno Faba has detailed that the public bidding has already been published and the process is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. Montes de Oca has emphasized the need for greater citizen participation in decisions of this kind, arguing that there are no studies that demonstrate the essential relevance of a hot air balloon for the social development of the city.
