A fisherman named Shaddock expressed his relief at being rescued, stating: "I am alive and I really thought I wouldn’t be." His journey began in April from the Baja California Peninsula with the intention of sailing to French Polynesia across the Pacific Ocean. The last time Shaddock saw land was in early May when he left the Sea of Cortés heading towards the Pacific, but a storm caught him on the way.

Finally, on July 18, Shaddock arrived at the Port of Manzanillo aboard the Maria Delia Tuna. Grateful for his rescue, he mentioned: "I feel good. I feel much better than before. To the captain and the fishing company that saved my life, I am very grateful to them."

In another incident, a tuna vessel rescued 25 fishermen who escaped a fire and the sinking of their boat in Chiapas while catching tuna. After the incident, the vessel "Arcos 1" sank due to the flames, but the fishermen managed to abandon it and request help from the Coast Guard, being rescued by the vessel Nair and taken to the dock of Puerto Chiapas.

Regarding their health status, the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) reported: "Naval Health personnel arrived in the area to conduct a medical evaluation of the crew members, finding them in good health and without complications that jeopardize their lives."

Similarly, in a past situation in July 2023, a tuna boat rescued 54-year-old Australian Timothy Lyndsay Shaddock after he spent three months adrift in his catamaran "Aloha Toa" about 1,300 kilometers from the coast. Shaddock and his dog Bella were found in an extremely precarious situation by the crew of the tuna boat, who provided them with medical attention, food, and hydration.
