Violence and Blockades in Mazatlán: A Call for Peace

On Tuesday, May 6, the Mazatlán-Culiacán highway was blocked by trailers and buses, some of which were set on fire, causing traffic chaos in the area. This situation arose after alleged clashes between rival cartels fighting for control of the territory in Sinaloa.

Images began circulating on social media of a poster announcing a supposed alliance between Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias 'Mayito Flaco', son of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, and Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, known as 'Chapito Isidro', leader of the remnant of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel. According to the poster, this alliance would aim to put an end to the violence in Sinaloa attributed to 'Los Chapitos', a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by the sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán Loera.

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported the arrest of Jesús 'N', a member of the Sinaloa Cartel with an arrest warrant for conspiracy and distribution of cocaine, as well as other related crimes. The detainee was captured in the municipality of Culiacán and is in the custody of the Attorney General's Office to determine his legal situation.

These events add to a wave of violence affecting Sinaloa for over a year, resulting in blockades on the highway, arrests of alleged criminals, and rumors of alliances between different criminal groups in the region. Uncertainty and violence continue to affect the population, leaving dozens of people trapped in traffic and raising concerns in the community about security in the state.
