The director of Water and Drainage of Monterrey, Juan Ignacio Barragán, reported that the program "Pay Up, Save!" has managed to recover 380 million pesos thanks to 185,000 users with debts who have regularized. This program, which began in October and has been extended until the end of January, will not have a new extension.
Barragán detailed that the Administrative Council authorized the program's extension and set a debt limit of up to 300,000 pesos, which can be settled with payments of 15,000 pesos. In addition, a reconnection fee of 460 pesos is charged, and approximately 33% of the overdue portfolio has been recovered.
For users who do not settle their debt after January 31, restrictors will be installed in their homes. These restrictors will provide water only from 3 to 7 in the morning, with a limit of 200 liters per household, respecting the human right to water. Barragán urged the population to regularize before the deadline to avoid the installation of restrictors.
The director of Water and Drainage explained that there are two types of devices to restrict water: smart meters and conventional restrictors. The more expensive smart meters will be used for users with larger debts. Payment facilities are offered, such as settling a debt of 20,000 pesos with 3,000 pesos, one of 50,000 with 6,000, and one of 200,000 with 12,000 pesos.
Barragán emphasized that this is the last opportunity for delinquent users to regularize and avoid the installation of water restrictors in their homes. The program "Pay Up, Save!" has been effective in recovering debts and aims to maintain the financial viability of water and drainage services in the region.
