Farewell to 1510 AM Radio in Monterrey

A great cultural and alternative radio project was recently recalled in a social media post by Fernando Gaona, who mentions that during its first stage it was called Radio Uno. At that time, Gaona participated in the now-defunct program 'Cine para escuchar', hosted by Rafael Carreón and Benjamín Gutiérrez, with production by Deyanira Moreno. This team of producers and announcers is considered a pioneering generation of what we now know as spoken radio.

The programming of Radio Uno featured musical shows such as 'El Mundo del Jazz', 'Fisonomía Musical', 'Largo y Sinuoso Camino' and 'El Caserón de la Luna', as well as news broadcasts. Recognized announcers such as Luis Tijerina, Alfonso Mario Sánchez, Marcelo Becerra, Ana Lozano, Perla Cecilia Ayala, Guillermo Villareal, René Pedroza, and Alfonso Herrera, among others, were heard on 1510 AM.

Gaona recalls an interview that marked him deeply and that was reproduced on various programs in the region. Iconic programs such as 'Todos estamos invitados' and '78 RPM' are highlighted, where topics of interest were addressed with sharpness and pleasant erudition.

1510 AM was inaugurated in 1979 during the administration of Governor Pedro Zorrilla Martínez. Its first broadcast was a special about the visit of His Holiness Pope John Paul II to Monterrey. Throughout its history, the station had a talented group of announcers and producers who enriched spoken radio in the region with varied and quality programming.

The 1510 AM station, part of the Radio Nuevo León System, ceased its transmissions after 46 years of history, marking the end of an era for spoken radio in the region. Today, this emblematic station bids farewell, having left an indelible mark in the memory of those who enjoyed it over the years.
