Monterrey Prepares for 2026 World Cup by Boosting Ecotourism and Collaboration

The Director of Tourism for Monterrey, Arturo Cantú, discussed the city's strategy leading up to the FIFA 2026 World Cup. The main focus is on developing ecotourism, a successful branch of tourism for many cities worldwide since the pandemic. He stated that this initiative is not directly tied to the World Cup but aims to expand the tourist agenda and offer visitors more options. Cantú also mentioned signing collaboration agreements with cities that have direct flight connections, such as Bogotá and Madrid, as well as cities in Costa Rica, known for their ecotourism. He emphasized the importance of promoting not only Monterrey but also its surrounding municipalities, like Santa Catarina with La Huasteca, Santiago with La Cola de Caballo or Chipinque. As part of improving tourist services, five new information modules will be opened at the airport, the central bus station, and three Sendas terminals, providing information in all languages. Furthermore, a major renovation of the Barrio Antiguo historic district is underway, which will serve as a legacy for the city. To enhance service, training courses are being conducted for hospitality, taxi, and restaurant workers, teaching them basic English and Korean phrases and how to properly interact with foreign tourists.
