During the past week, good air quality was enjoyed in the metropolitan area of Monterrey thanks to the cold weather. However, with the rise in temperatures on Sunday, the beginning of this week does not look promising for places like Pesquería and San Bernabé, which affects the health of people with an increase in conditions such as allergies, rhinitis, cough, and irritated eyes and mucous membranes.
In her recent visit to Nuevo León, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, committed with Governor Samuel García to carry out concrete actions to combat pollution in the state. After their meeting, the state executive revealed that agreements had been signed with Semarnat and the Climate Change Institute to effectively address this issue.
According to the information provided by the official page aire.nl.gob.mx, at 6:00 AM on this Monday, seven out of the fifteen monitoring stations reported poor air quality in the metropolitan area of Monterrey. Areas such as San Pedro, Escobedo, Universidad, San Nicolás, Obispado, Apodaca, and Juárez were colored orange, indicating unfavorable environmental conditions. Meanwhile, Cadereyta, Libramiento, Santa Catarina, and García had acceptable air quality in yellow. Only two stations, Guadalupe and La Rioja, showed a low level of pollution in green.
Previously, Sheinbaum had instructed Profepa to carry out pollution measurement actions in El Carmen, where residents are affected by particles from a rock quarry and waste from Simeprode. In this regard, the commitment from the authorities is clear to take measures to improve air quality in the region and protect the health of the population.
