Tense Encounter: Nuevo León Governor Booed at Event with President

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum visited Monterrey, where Nuevo León Governor Samuel Garcia was booed at the annual Caintra business assembly. Despite this, Garcia thanked the federal government for financial support for key projects, including the metro construction. Sheinbaum, in turn, reported on joint achievements in security and infrastructure.

These accusations have increased friction between the state government and some productive sectors. President Sheinbaum had previously arrived at Military Air Base 14 in Apodaca and later moved to Cintermex to participate in the 82nd Annual Assembly of Caintra, where the booing episode captured attention from the start of the event. Samuel Garcia applauds Sheinbaum and thanks her for her support. Despite the hostile reception, Samuel Garcia maintained a conciliatory tone during his speech. The head of government took the opportunity to recognize the support of the federal government, highlighting the resources recently sent for key projects in the state. In particular, he emphasized the importance of the 1.5 billion pesos destined for infrastructure linked to the World Cup, which will be channeled to the construction of the Monterrey Metro. Garcia stressed that this support is crucial given the financial limitations faced by his administration. During his message, he even asked for a round of applause for the President, recognizing the federal push for strategic projects. The arrival of the Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Garcia, at the Caintra annual assembly was marked by a tense atmosphere. Upon entering the venue, accompanied by President Claudia Sheinbaum, a group of attendees began chanting 'Out with Samuel', showing the discontent of the business sector. The rejection did not arise in isolation. Meanwhile, Sheinbaum reiterated her government's commitment to Nuevo León, mentioning progress on projects such as Lines 4 and 6 of the Metro, as well as investments in health, education, and housing. The President also highlighted improvements in public safety in the state, pointing to a significant reduction in homicides in the recent period, as a result of coordination between different levels of government. In recent days, representatives of organizations such as Coparmex and Canaco have publicly expressed concern, even in front of the state governor himself, about alleged extortion cases attributed to authorities.
