La Liga BBVA MX reaffirms its zero tolerance policy towards incidents of violence in football stadiums, according to an official statement. The BBVA Stadium of Rayados in Monterrey was the scene of a violent act when a Rayados supporter assaulted a Pachuca fan after the match where the Tuzos won 3-2. This generated tensions among local supporters at the end of the match.
The assault took place in the stadium's corridors while a reporter from Multimedios was interviewing the supporter of the Hidalgo club. A man wearing a cap and a black sweater approached and struck him on the back of the neck. Despite the intervention of a companion of the Pachuca fan, the attacker responded with another blow and fled while security personnel attempted to stop him. The moment was recorded on video and quickly went viral on social media.
The online reaction was immediate, with numerous criticisms towards the Monterrey fans, given that their stadium has been the scene of various violent incidents among their own supporters. Liga MX condemned the act and confirmed that the attacker was identified, arrested, and made available to the authorities. This individual will be banned for life from football stadiums in Mexico, in accordance with Liga MX regulations and the fan ID.
As for the repercussions, several users expressed their discontent on social media pointing out that the Monterrey fans are inappropriate and lamenting the incident. The attacker was arrested at the stadium, and his name was revealed after the intervention of Stadium Police, allowing for disciplinary measures in line with the severity of the situation. Liga MX, in collaboration with Club Monterrey, ensured that the attacker will lose his season ticket and FAN ID for entering football events.
