Nuevo León Governor Invites Japanese Imperial Family to 1000th World Cup Match

The governor of Nuevo León will invite the Japanese Imperial Family to the match that will be the thousandth in the history of the World Cup. This was announced after confirmation from FIFA President Gianni Infantino that the match between Japan and Tunisia on June 20th will be given special attention. Samuel García stated that FIFA is making extensive preparations for this event. "Fortunately, we have a world-class stadium, the one for Rayados, and we are fully ready to host the thousandth match, which (Gianni) Infantino (FIFA president) already said will be given all the attention, and we will do the same for the FanFest," the governor expressed. Upon his arrival in Tokyo as part of a working tour of Japan and South Korea, the governor said he is reviewing the logistics. García met with executives of the Nissan Stadium, which hosted the 2002 World Cup final between Brazil and Germany, to learn about operational systems, access control, security protocols, and crowd management at large-scale events. Subsequently, he attended the Ajinomoto Stadium in Yokohama, invited by the president of Tokyo FC, Shigeya Kawagishi, where he watched a J1 League match. The governor highlighted the international connectivity of Nuevo León and took the opportunity to invite Japanese fans. "Remember, there is a direct flight from Tokyo to Monterrey, so we are 70 days away from this event on June 20th, and I have no doubt it will be one of the best games of this World Cup. We await you in Nuevo León, the best and most northern venue," he added. Furthermore, he announced that he will extend the invitation to the Japanese Imperial Family during his agenda the following day. With these actions, the state government seeks to position Nuevo León as a world-class venue, boosting foreign investment, job creation, and a high-level tourist and cultural experience for the thousands of visitors expected in 2026.
