Proposal to Enhance Indigenous Representation in Elections

The Commission on Municipal Affairs of the local Congress debated a proposal to guarantee the equitable participation of indigenous and afromexican communities in the processes of electing municipal delegates. The initiative includes a call to 13 municipalities to modify their regulations and integrate a Commission for Attention to Indigenous Peoples and Afromexican Communities, thus seeking a more effective representation of these sectors. According to deputy Ruth Noemí Tiscareño Agoitia, true inclusion is achieved in decision-making spaces, while legislator Juan Carlos Romero Hicks expressed doubts about the effective implementation of the proposals.

The municipalities involved in this exhortation are: Apaseo el Alto, Atarjea, Comonfort, Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de la Independencia Nacional, Salvatierra, San Luis de la Paz, San Miguel de Allende, Santa Catarina, Tierra Blanca, Valle de Santiago, Victoria, and Villagrán. Parallel to this discussion in the local Congress, the Human Rights Secretariat of Guanajuato participated in the National Forum for Consultation with Indigenous and Afromexican Peoples and Communities, where Deputy Secretary Antonio Guerrero Horta joined working tables to contribute to the National Development Plan 2025-2030. The event was attended by around 3,000 authorities and representatives from 64 indigenous peoples and the afromexican community.

In another topic discussed, the real estate development La Cucursola in the Sierra de Santa Rosa was scrutinized, raising concerns about its potential environmental impact. Legislators requested precise reports on the project's permits from environmental authorities such as Profepa and the PAOT and demanded studies to assess possible damage to the ecosystem. Deputy Ernesto Millán Soberanes expressed his concern regarding the lack of regulation in environmentally sensitive areas, warning about the need to act to avoid negative precedents in similar cases.
