Technical director Guillermo Almada and his young team are showing good performance in the Clausura 2025. One of the standout players is Elías Montiel from Pachuca, who has expressed his opinion on the youth rule in Mexican football. Montiel emphasizes the importance of the opportunities given to young homegrown players and considers this the ideal time to stand out and be noticed by higher-tier teams.
"Before, there wasn't as much focus on putting so many young players to play or having them take risks like this," said the player, referring to the significance currently given to young footballers in the league. Since his debut in the Clausura 2023, Elías Montiel has participated in 49 matches with Pachuca, scoring one goal and providing five assists. For Montiel, this window of opportunity is crucial for those young players aspiring to succeed in football and wanting to stand out at the elite level.
Despite his short career, Montiel has also had experience in the Intercontinental Cup and received the Bronze Ball in that tournament. However, he has not been free of controversies, such as the one that recently occurred in the match against León, where he was sent off for a foul on James Rodríguez. This expulsion affected the development of the match, which was eventually won by the emerald team.
For his part, Guillermo Almada preferred not to directly refer to the refereeing controversy and Montiel's expulsion, stating that decisions belong to management and that as a team they must abide by them. Despite the setbacks, Pachuca continues its journey in the local tournament after recovering from their absence in the first round due to their participation in the Intercontinental Cup.
