
Jorge Ermilo Barrera Novelo, Secretary of Economy and Labor, and Víctor José López Martínez, representative of the Government of the State of Yucatán in Mexico City, met with federal authorities to promote economic development and the conservation of natural resources in the region.
During the visit to the capital, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena held a meeting with Alicia Bárcena, head of SEMARNAT, to address important environmental issues. In another relevant event, the state government and SEMAR signed a Long-Term Agreement for the Expansion and Modernization of the Port of Altura de Progreso.
In the ceremony, they highlighted the significance of the agreement to strengthen port infrastructure and state competitiveness. The agreement establishes collaboration between SEMAR, the state government, and ASIPONA, aiming to position Yucatán as a strategic point in international trade.
The modernization of the port will allow larger vessels to dock, increasing operational capacity and generating new investment opportunities. Joaquín Díaz Mena mentioned that this project is essential for the local economy and reflects federal and state commitment to infrastructure development.
The governor emphasized that the expansion aligns with the Maya Renaissance, seeking modernization without losing cultural identity. This action reinforces the position of Yucatán as a key logistical hub in southeastern Mexico, strengthening its global connectivity.
Present at the signing were Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, head of SEMAR, who highlighted the positive impact on national port development. For his part, Admiral Felipe Solano Armenta, director of ASIPONA, emphasized the commitment to ensure the efficiency and sustained growth of the port.
Alongside the governor was also Dafne López Martínez, General Coordinator of Advisors for the Government of Yucatán. Together, they underscored the importance of the agreement for economic growth and the international projection of Yucatán.
