The municipal treasurer of Puebla, Héctor González Cobián, announced in an interview with media that the local government has managed to rectify a financial deficit inherited from the previous administration amounting to 547 million pesos. This deficit originated during the terms of former mayors Eduardo Rivera Pérez and Adán Domínguez Sánchez and began to be resolved in December 2024.
González Cobián explained that the priority was to cover the most urgent debts, such as those related to the Tax Administration Service (SAT) and the withholdings to Infonavit. Although the necessary resources to cover the debt are already available, there are still files under analysis to determine the corresponding payments.
Furthermore, the municipal treasurer highlighted that the collection of property tax exceeded the planned target, reaching 600 million pesos during the last months of the previous year. This amount collected was fundamental to settle the inherited debts, cover pending payments, and fulfill payment commitments that were not contemplated in the budget.
In the first 100 days of management, the Puebla government has managed to settle between 70 and 80 tax and service files left by the previous administration, thanks to the resources obtained from property tax collection. According to González Cobián, the early payment of this tax was key to resolving the financial deficit and meeting the inherited commitments.
