The mayor of Puebla, José Chedraui Budib, has announced the implementation of a pilot test in the area of the "El Carmen" park, where a parking meter payment machine will be installed. This initiative aims to observe the usage behavior of the parking meters and determine whether it is convenient to establish a formal charge in the area. Currently, El Carmen lacks parking meters, and this measure seeks to evaluate whether the system is feasible for the residents and merchants of the area.
In the initial stage of the trial, the parking meter service in El Carmen will be free, as a company has not yet been designated for its operation. However, users will still need to register to use the available parking spaces. This pilot phase will allow the city council to make a definitive decision regarding the implementation of charges in the future.
Chedraui emphasized the importance of conducting this type of testing to analyze the community's needs and assess the impact that charging could have on public areas, with the aim of improving services and generating benefits for urban spaces.
Recently, the mayor announced some modifications to the parking meter system in the Historic Center, such as free access to the service for people with disabilities, senior citizens, and special discounts for students. Additionally, it was established that the first hour of parking will be free. Currently, the parking meter system is not operating due to the termination of the contract with the company Parkimovil on October 14.
