Taxi Drivers Protest Against Fee Irregularities in Puebla

Around 150 taxi drivers from platforms like Uber and Didi protested in Puebla, demanding fairer rates and greater safety. They highlighted the high commission fees which jeopardize their livelihoods. The drivers seek dialogue with platform representatives for a fair resolution, as the protest has led to a shortage of available units in the city.

Drivers of taxi services like Uber, Didi, and InDriver held a protest to denounce irregularities in fare charges and demand greater safety during trips. About 150 unit owners gathered near the Ecological Park and then headed to the companies' offices in Huexotitla and Villa San Pablo, where they carried out a symbolic closure.

In this context, Rosalba Castillo, representative of United Drivers for Puebla, pointed out that the applications take between 36% and 50% of the cost of each trip, leaving them with only half of the total amount. Castillo emphasized that many families depend on this income, highlighting particularly women and seniors who find a source of livelihood in this work.

The drivers also expressed their concern about "dynamic pricing," which affects both drivers and users by tripling prices in situations of traffic or adverse weather. This situation, they explain, reduces the demand, as many users choose not to use the service due to the unexpected high costs.

In search of solutions, drivers seek to establish a dialogue with representatives of the platforms and mobility and transport authorities. The goal is to reach an agreement that benefits both parties, especially in reducing the commissions that the companies charge them.

The protest caused a shortage of units in the city, as many drivers decided not to connect for the rest of the day while waiting for a dialogue table with the platforms to address their demands.
