The outgoing and incoming governments of Puebla are conducting a technical study on the conditions for increasing fares in public transportation, the results of which will be presented on November 25 to determine its feasibility. This was reported by the Secretary of Governance, Javier Aquino Limón, who stated that dissenting voices are allowed to manifest, as long as they do so through the appropriate channels and without harming third parties.
It was explained that the process to consider a fare increase is based on technical aspects. Over the past two weeks, the Secretariat of Mobility and Transport has been conducting technical work, as improving service is the priority. It was also mentioned that the benefits provided by the state government, such as discounts on vehicle inspections and fines, are related to the improvement of public service.
The nearly two-week deadline to present a report will help make informed decisions, with the collaboration of the transition team led by the upcoming Secretary of Mobility, Silvia Tanús Osorio. It was emphasized that if it is deemed appropriate to implement the increase during this administration, it will be carried out; otherwise, it will be pending for future decisions.
Transport operators are seeking an increase in the fare, proposing a rate between 14 and 19 pesos, and requesting that part of this increase be subsidized by the government, similar to what currently happens with the metrobús system. For his part, elected governor Alejandro Armenta has indicated that he does not rule out an increase in the fare, but that it will be assessed objectively.
