Woman Clings to Car Door to Prevent Theft in Puebla

A video on social media captured an act of civic resistance. A woman put herself at risk by clinging to the door of her own vehicle while a suspected thief tried to steal it, struggling with her in the middle of traffic on an avenue in Puebla. The incident occurred on Bulevar Valsequillo, in the San José Xilotzingo neighborhood of the capital city. Along with the vehicle, a cell phone, cash, and the car itself were secured. The SSC reported that the detainee has a prior record for crimes against health, business robbery, and injuries, which adds a relevant detail about his criminal profile. In a 'timely intervention,' according to the official statement, they managed to detain the presumed responsible, identified as Mario 'N', 50 years old. The man was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authority for his presumed participation in the crime of robbery. After the alert, elements of the Puebla Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) deployed in the area. The images, which quickly went viral, show a woman hanging from the open door of a gray Chevy car, which was moving at considerable speed. The footage captures her cries for help and her stating that the driver was trying to steal her car, while he was maneuvering abruptly to shake her off.
