Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and the federal Secretary of Public Education (SEP), Mario Delgado Carrillo, launched the strategy "Live Healthy. Live Happy" in Puebla with the aim of promoting better eating habits among students from 4,268 schools. From the Community Educational Center of the South "Manuel Bartlett Díaz", the State Health Secretary, Carlos Oliver Pacheco, reported that 30% of elementary school students in the region suffer from obesity, making the implementation of the National Strategy Live Healthy crucial.
As part of this initiative, 42 brigades made up of personnel from IMSS, IMSS-Wellbeing, Issste, DIF, and the primary Secretariats of Education and Health will be deployed to conduct checks on 681,721 students. Weight and height measurements will be taken to calculate their body mass index and activity recommendations will be provided to parents. Additionally, a dental check-up will be conducted, as 40% of children do not receive dental attention.
Delgado Carrillo emphasized the importance of prohibiting the promotion and sale of junk food products in schools starting March 29. For his part, the governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta Mier, thanked Delgado for his presence and reiterated the State's commitment to support any federal strategy that benefits the education and well-being of students in the region. Puebla, with more than 2 million children and adolescents enrolled in over 14,000 educational institutions, represents 6% of the national educational enrollment.
