The governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta Mier, assured that freedom of expression will be guaranteed during the marches and mobilizations that will take place in commemoration of International Women's Day on March 8. In a press conference, the governor highlighted the importance of this date to commemorate women's achievements and recognize their fundamental rights.
"March 8 is not a day for congratulations, but to commemorate women. It is a day to remember the struggle for equality and to recognize their rights," affirmed Armenta Mier. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring respect and freedom of expression for all women participating in the demonstrations and announced the implementation of security measures to protect the city's historical monuments.
In this regard, the secretariats of the Interior (Segob) and Public Security (SSP) will carry out operations to ensure the safe development of the marches in the capital and other municipalities, preventing acts of vandalism in the monuments that are part of Puebla's historical and cultural heritage. "We will be very attentive to ensure that freedom of expression is respected, but also to protect the historical monuments and prevent them from being vandalized," emphasized the governor.
According to the calls issued so far, at least 15 civil organizations and feminist collectives will participate in the '8M' march, where they will express demands regarding the treatment of authorities regarding femicides, forced disappearances, physical, psychological, and sexual violence, among other issues.
On the other hand, the governor of Puebla supported the request of the federal secretary of Women, Citlali Hernández Mora, to carry out an investigation against the substitute judge Eliezer Melchor, responsible for granting an amparo that would have allowed Javier López Zavala, the intellectual author of the femicide of Cecilia Monzón, to evade the precautionary measure of preventive imprisonment against him.
