PRI and PAN Fail to Form Alliance for Elections

The PRI and PAN parties in Puebla announced they could not reach an agreement for an alliance in the upcoming 2025 extraordinary elections. Néstor Camarillo, the state leader of PRI, mentioned their candidate registrations and the implications of a de facto coalition amid prior alliance breakups in other states.

PRI and PAN Fail to Form Alliance for Elections

The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and National Action Party (PAN) failed to reach an agreement to form an alliance for the extraordinary elections of 2025 in Puebla. This was reported by the state leader of the PRI, Néstor Camarillo Medina, at the end of the registration period for candidates last Sunday.

In a press conference, Camarillo Medina explained that the extraordinary process will take place on March 23. Regarding candidate registrations, the PRI registered Mario Olvera in Chignahuapan and Silvia Durán in Xiutetelco. For its part, the PAN repeated its formulas with Marco Antonio Valencia in Venustiano Carranza and Pedro Báez in Ayotoxco.

Although no alliance was formalized between the parties for these elections, Camarillo Medina mentioned that there is a "de facto coalition." The PRI will not nominate candidates in Venustiano Carranza and Ayotoxco, while the PAN will do the same in Chignahuapan and Xiutetelco.

The PRI leader pointed out that this decision was made after the breaking of alliances in other states such as Veracruz and Durango. Camarillo Medina mentioned: "I think we should have gone in alliance, but it wasn't left for the PRI."
