
Following the protests by students of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), the rector Lilia Cedillo Ramírez addressed the university community to respond to student demands through dialogue and conciliation.
In her statement, Cedillo Ramírez acknowledged the importance of student voices and the dedication with which they expressed the issues within the institution. She emphasized the need to listen to the concerns arising from the critical and transformative spirit characteristic of the student community, promoting respect, empathy, and objectivity in the exchange.
The rector assured that the expressed demands are being addressed through dialogue tables organized by academic unit, covering topics such as educational quality, infrastructure conditions, punctuality and commitment of teaching staff, as well as addressing reports of harassment at the university.
The mobilizations included blockades on avenues and accesses to the university campus, which led to a virtual format for some classes. Cedillo Ramírez stated that the issues raised are on the institutional agenda and that work is being done on diagnostics to find equitable and fair solutions.
The protests, which began on February 24, 2025, by medical students, mentioned the reduction of positions for internships and clinical practices, as well as administrative deficiencies. The rector expressed her commitment to opening new channels of communication with the university community to strengthen understanding and collaboration.
