A total of 14 people registered for the call to preside over the Human Rights Commission of the State of Puebla (CDH Puebla) for the period from November 7, 2024, to November 6, 2029. Among the candidates are María Luisa Núñez Barojas, a member of the collective Voice of the Disappeared, and Félix Cerezo Vélez, the current head of the organization, who is seeking re-election. The registration period ended on Tuesday, and the State Congress published the list of candidates competing for the position.
The candidates for the CDH are: Rosa Isela Sánchez Soya, Edson Humberto Lucas Benítez, Gabriel Hernández Campos, Félix Ramos Montaño, Blanca Laura Olivier Palacios, María Elena Guerrero Flores, and Raquel Medel Valencia. Félix Cerezo, who is seeking to repeat the position, José de Jesús Aguilar Carrasco, Juan Manuel Chi Carrera, Marco Antonio Moreno Rosado, Mónica Roldán Reyes, Luis Soriano Peregrina, and María Luisa Núñez Barojas also registered.
The Human Rights Commission of the State Congress approved the project agreement establishing the guidelines, methodology for the hearings, and evaluation criteria for the candidates. On October 23 and 24, verification of compliance with requirements will be carried out, and on October 25, the list of individuals who have met the conditions of the call will be published.
The selected candidates must present before the Commission from October 29 to 31. Among the evaluation criteria are academic preparation, professional experience, theoretical and practical training in human rights, as well as the impartiality and suitability of the candidates. For the hearings, candidates will present their work program, both orally and in writing, and will have up to 20 minutes to present it.
Regarding the questions, each candidate will answer four: one on basic knowledge and three on practical knowledge, having two minutes to respond to each one. The public will be able to participate in formulating questions for the candidates through a link available on the Congress's website, which will be active until 5:00 PM on Friday, October 25.
Finally, it was reported that the approved agreement will be published on the official site of the State Congress for the knowledge of both the candidates and the citizenry.
