As part of the international match between Spain and Peru, Puebla will not only be in the spotlight of world football but will also take a key step towards strengthening its sports infrastructure with the construction and renovation of 25 football fields. The head of the National Commission on Physical Culture and Sport, Rommel Pacheco, announced that this project is part of a national strategy that involves an investment of close to 2 billion pesos to intervene in more than 200 sports spaces throughout the country. “These 25 fields represent infrastructure that will allow us to boost sports from the grassroots,” he stated. With this move, Puebla is not only preparing to host high-level meetings but also to build a new generation of athletes from its communities. The official highlighted that this initiative is part of a program called “Social World Cup,” which aims to use sport as a motor for community development, especially among girls, boys, and young people. “There are more than 1,200 fields across the country. Conade is in charge of the sports part and follow-up,” he explained. The works in Puebla are part of this national plan, in coordination with the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development, which will be one of the bodies in charge of its execution. Although the exact location for the start of the works has not been specified, it is expected that the official groundbreaking will take place this same Thursday afternoon, with the possible presence of Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier. Pacheco hinted that this will not be the only push for sport in the entity, as additional projects in disciplines such as swimming and athletics are also being worked on, whose details will be announced together with the state government. The objective, he emphasized, is clear: to position Puebla as a state capable of hosting national and international sporting events, but also as a talent nursery with dignified and accessible spaces for the population. “We have invested a lot in materials and events.”
