In the year 2024, despite being classified as one of the driest years in the history of Querétaro, agricultural production in the region showed significant growth. According to the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of the federal government, 81.6% of the planted land was harvested, surpassing the 74% achieved in 2023.
A key factor for this increase was the considerable decrease in damaged land. While in 2023, 24,913 hectares were reported affected, in 2024 this figure was reduced to 4,826 hectares, almost six times less.
Agricultural production in Querétaro during 2024 registered a growth of 9.8% and a decrease of 80.6% in crop loss. Despite the drought, the entity managed to excel in this aspect.
Corn for grain led production with 59% of the harvests, followed by forage corn with 13.9%, alfalfa with 7.7%, oats with 4.9%, and beans with 2.2%. In terms of production by crop, increases were notable in corn for human consumption, forage corn, alfalfa, oats, and beans.
On the other hand, production from irrigated agriculture experienced an increase of 8%, while rain-fed production rose by 12.5%. Despite these achievements, a slight decrease of 0.4% was observed in the total number of hectares planted, compared to the previous year.
During 2024, Querétaro faced an exceptional drought that affected 96.3% of the state territory, positioning the region as the most affected nationally for six consecutive months.
