The Secretary of Government of Querétaro, Federico De Los Cobos, reported that surprise inspections will be carried out to detect street vendors in the Historic Center of the city. It is estimated that around 250 informal vendors set up in public spaces within this area.
To address this situation, personnel from the Directorate of Inspection in Commerce and Spectacles will be deployed in areas such as Jardín Zenea, the Madero walkway, and Jardín Guerrero. De Los Cobos indicated that the operations will be constant, without prior notice, with the participation of the 54 fixed inspectors from the municipality in the Historic Center.
In collaboration with elements of Public Security and personnel from the Human Rights Defense Office of Querétaro, efforts are being made to ensure proper treatment of the vendors during the inspections. The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Querétaro, Lorena Muñoz Altamira, expressed her support for these actions, highlighting the unfair competition that informal vendors represent for established businesses.
The inspections aim not only to regulate the activity but also to improve the urban image, preventing the accumulation of people in the streets and generating a perception of safety. According to municipal data, the most sold products by informal vendors include dolls, bows, headbands, clay sculptures, and other imported items, mainly from nearby municipalities and states such as Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero.
