The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has confirmed an investment of around 190 million pesos in a project to bring electrical energy to the Sierra Gorda of Querétaro, without the state contributing additional resources. Mauricio Reyes Caracheo, head of the State Energy Agency, reported that Governor Mauricio Kuri successfully negotiated with the Ministry of Energy the solution to this problem in the Sierra.
The state government, for its part, will implement a program to deliver solar panels to homes currently without electricity in the region, while the CFE will modernize its infrastructure in that mountainous area. The amount of the investment will come entirely from federal funds, without state contributions.
Reyes Caracheo detailed that a prior census was conducted to identify around 3,800 homes that currently lack electrical service. In a first phase, he will meet with mayors of several municipalities, including San Juan del Río, Corregidora, Amealco, Huimilpan, and others in the mountainous region, to identify the most needy residents and request their support.
The program could start in 2025, and the installation of solar panels in areas without electrical energy is anticipated. Regarding the electrical transmission project led by the CFE, a meeting is planned in the coming weeks to define the details and necessary investment from all parties involved, with the aim of creating an executive project.
Originally, the project contemplated the construction of substations and load centers to significantly increase the energy capacity of the region for at least a decade.
