The municipality of Querétaro is preparing to receive approximately 180 thousand visitors at the cemeteries during the Day of the Dead celebrations. This figure would represent a 33% increase compared to the previous year, which had 135 thousand attendees.
The Secretary of Municipal Public Services, Armando Presa Ortega, announced that 600 workers will be deployed for cleaning efforts in the eight cemeteries of the city. It is estimated that around 20 tons of waste will be collected, mainly seasonal flowers.
"There are eight cemeteries we will be working on, we will have 600 people deployed, and we will collect more than 20 tons of garbage, specifically seasonal flowers," Presa Ortega mentioned. The cemeteries will be open on November 1, 2, and 3 to give an extra day for families who wish to visit their deceased loved ones.
Additionally, the possibility of constructing a ninth cemetery in the municipality is being considered, a proposal that comes from the previous administration. However, there is currently no land available to proceed with this project. Preparations are underway to welcome visitors and honor the deceased during this important Mexican tradition.
