Investigation into Human Rights Violations in Querétaro

The Human Rights Defense Office of Querétaro (DDHQ) has begun an ex officio investigation into the confrontation that took place in the Historic Center between elements of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat and street vendors in the public thoroughfare. The vendors reported the detention of at least 4 of their companions, as well as several injuries from dog bites.

In relation to this incident, the DDHQ issued a statement informing that, after receiving reports of possible human rights violations, it sent personnel from the General Visitor's Office to the Historic Center and the Civic Courts to provide assistance to possible victims.

"Personnel from the General Visitor's Office are deployed both in the area of the Historic Center of Querétaro to assist possible victims and in the detention centers to which the detained individuals have been taken, to verify their integrity and safeguard their rights," stated the defense office in its communication.

So far, neither the Public Security Secretariat nor the municipality of Querétaro has provided information regarding this matter.
